Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is reportedly evaluating the acquisition of a controlling stake in Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s largest port operator. If completed, the transaction would rank among the company’s most significant international acquisitions and further strengthen its global presence in ports and logistics.

ABP owns and operates 21 ports across England, Scotland and Wales, including major gateways such as Southampton, Immingham and Hull. The network handles around 25% of the UK’s seaborne trade, serving container cargo, automobiles, bulk commodities, cruise vessels and industrial logistics.
The proposed acquisition is in line with APSEZ’s strategy of expanding beyond India and building a diversified global maritime network. Adani Ports has been steadily increasing its international footprint through investments in strategic port assets and logistics infrastructure across key trade routes.
If the deal materialises, it would significantly enhance Adani Ports’ presence in Europe while reinforcing its ambition to become one of the world’s leading integrated transport and logistics companies.
