Kochouseph Chittilappilly’s business journey began with a setback. Banks were unwilling to fund his idea of manufacturing voltage stabilisers. In 1977, he borrowed ₹1 lakh from his father and started the business with just two employees. That small venture eventually grew into V-Guard Industries.

V-Guard later entered the capital markets with its IPO in 2008, marking another major milestone in Chittilappilly’s entrepreneurial journey.
He then diversified into the amusement park business, launching Veegaland in Kochi in 2000, which was later rebranded as Wonderla Kochi. The business expanded to Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and Wonderla Holidays went public with its IPO in 2014.
His business interests later expanded into real estate through Veegaland Developers. The company has now opened its ₹210-crore IPO, taking another business associated with Chittilappilly to the capital markets. The issue comprises 1.5 crore shares and carries a price band of ₹130–₹140 per share. The IPO opened on September 10, 2026.
The latest IPO marks another chapter in Chittilappilly’s journey of building businesses across electrical products, entertainment and real estate.
Beyond business, Chittilappilly is also known for an extraordinary act of philanthropy. In 2011, at the age of 60, he donated one of his kidneys to an unknown truck driver suffering from kidney disease. The experience strengthened his focus on philanthropy and led to the establishment of the K. Chittilappilly Foundation.
From a ₹1 lakh beginning to building multiple businesses and taking them to the capital markets, Chittilappilly’s journey combines entrepreneurship, diversification and philanthropy.
