Japan-based water treatment solutions company Daiki Axis is set to invest around ₹200 crore to establish its third manufacturing facility in India at Tumakuru, Karnataka, as it looks to expand its presence in the country’s growing wastewater treatment and water recycling market.

The new facility will be developed by Daiki Axis India, the company’s wholly owned Indian subsidiary, and will focus on manufacturing and assembling sewage treatment systems based on Japan’s proprietary Johkasou technology. The technology enables decentralised wastewater treatment and reuse, helping reduce dependence on large sewer networks.
According to company officials, the investment comes at a time when India is facing rising demand for sustainable water management solutions due to rapid urbanisation, industrial growth and increasing pressure on water resources.
Daiki Axis India Advisor K C Pandey said the Karnataka facility will strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, reduce import dependence and enable faster deployment of advanced wastewater treatment systems across India.
India has emerged as a major market for wastewater treatment and water reuse solutions, with growing demand from residential complexes, industries, hotels, institutions and urban infrastructure projects. Treated wastewater is increasingly being used for landscaping, gardening and other non-potable applications.
The expansion also aligns with the government’s Make in India initiative and the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which focuses on sustainable urban development, improved sanitation and modern infrastructure.
Daiki Axis currently operates two manufacturing facilities in India at Baroda, Gujarat, and Palwal near Faridabad, Haryana. The Tumakuru plant will further expand the company’s manufacturing footprint and support its long-term growth plans in the Indian market.
Growing Need for Water Recycling Solutions
India generates more than 72 billion litres of sewage every day, while treatment capacity remains insufficient in several regions. A significant amount of untreated wastewater continues to enter rivers and water bodies, increasing the need for efficient treatment solutions.
The company’s Johkasou technology, developed in Japan, treats wastewater at the point of generation, making it suitable for decentralised applications in urban areas, residential communities and commercial establishments.
With increasing focus on circular water use, smart cities and sustainable infrastructure, Daiki Axis expects decentralised sewage treatment systems to play a larger role in India’s future water management landscape.
