IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna has confirmed that Amaravati will host one of the first two IBM quantum computers planned for deployment in India, with commissioning targeted for September 2026.

Speaking at an event in the United States, Krishna said the field of quantum computing is approaching a major breakthrough, with real-world applications expected to scale rapidly in the coming years.
Quantum Computing Nears Commercial Turning Point
Krishna noted that quantum systems are just two to three years away from delivering meaningful commercial value across sectors including pharmaceuticals, materials science, financial services, logistics, cybersecurity and advanced artificial intelligence.

The announcement is being seen as a major step forward for Andhra Pradesh’s plan to position Amaravati as India’s “Quantum Capital.” According to an official statement, IBM’s decision marks a significant milestone for the state’s Quantum Valley initiative.
