Titagarh Rail Systems is set to achieve a significant milestone in India’s railway manufacturing sector by producing aluminium railway coaches entirely within the country by FY27. The move aligns with India’s broader push for indigenous manufacturing and technological self-reliance in transportation infrastructure.

The company is currently developing capabilities to localise the production of aluminium coach bodies, a segment that has traditionally relied on imported technology and components. Aluminium coaches are lighter than conventional steel coaches, making trains more energy-efficient while reducing maintenance costs over their operational life.
The initiative is expected to support the expansion of modern passenger rail networks, including metro systems, Vande Bharat trains and other next-generation rolling stock projects. Local manufacturing will also help reduce costs, shorten supply chains and create opportunities for domestic suppliers.
Titagarh has been strengthening its partnership with global technology providers while simultaneously building in-house expertise to establish a complete manufacturing ecosystem in India. The company believes full localisation can be achieved within the next financial year.
The development represents another major boost for the government’s Make in India initiative and could position India as a competitive hub for advanced rail coach manufacturing in the years ahead.
