US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that India and the United States will soon conclude a trade agreement, while calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a close friend and praising the bilateral relationship. Trump made the comments after a four-day round of negotiations in New Delhi that ran from June 1 to June 4.

According to reports, the latest talks focused on an interim trade arrangement and covered issues such as market access, non-tariff barriers, customs procedures, trade facilitation, and economic security cooperation. Officials from both sides said the discussions were constructive and aimed at a mutually beneficial outcome.
Trump also revived his criticism of India’s tariff regime, saying American firms had faced barriers for years, though he claimed the trade balance has now shifted in Washington’s favor. His remarks come amid broader negotiations and fresh US tariff concerns that may still affect the talks.
