Union Minister Suresh Gopi has described Kerala’s latest position on the proposed AIIMS project as a positive development, saying it could help accelerate discussions on establishing the premier healthcare institution in the state.

According to him, one of the key issues in the AIIMS discussions has been the selection of a suitable location. He welcomed indications that the state is willing to consider locations suggested by the Centre rather than remaining committed to a single proposed site.
The AIIMS project has been a long-standing demand in Kerala, with multiple rounds of discussions between the state and central governments over land availability, site selection, and policy approvals. The Centre has previously sought additional location options, while the state had largely focused on Kinaloor in Kozhikode as its preferred site.
Gopi has repeatedly expressed confidence that Kerala will eventually get an AIIMS institution and has maintained that progress depends on resolving location-related issues and securing the necessary approvals from the Union government.
The remarks come amid renewed discussions on expanding advanced healthcare infrastructure in Kerala, a state that remains without an AIIMS despite years of proposals and representations to the Centre.
