India’s push for self-reliant defence manufacturing received a major boost after Pune-based private defence company Nibe Limited successfully demonstrated its long-range Suryastra rocket systems at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha. The trials involved rocket variants with strike ranges of 150 km and 300 km.
According to reports, the Suryastra rockets achieved highly accurate strikes during testing, recording Circular Error Probable (CEP) accuracy levels of around 1.5 to 2 metres. Defence experts say such precision capabilities significantly improve long-range strike effectiveness for modern battlefield operations.

The firing demonstration was conducted as part of an Indian Army procurement programme, indicating potential operational deployment of the rocket launcher systems in the future. The successful trials also highlight the increasing role of private Indian companies in developing advanced indigenous defence technologies.
India has been aggressively promoting domestic defence production under its self-reliance strategy, encouraging private-sector participation across missiles, drones, artillery systems, aerospace technologies, and advanced weapon platforms. Analysts believe projects like Suryastra could strengthen India’s long-range precision strike capabilities while reducing dependence on imported military systems.
