A scene from the 2002 film Thamizhan, where Vijay’s character sends money to help clear national debt, has inspired a real-life gesture in Chennai.

Donation to Tamil Nadu relief fund
Chennai-based mentalist Arun Loganathan has donated ₹22,674 to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. He said the act was meant as a small contribution towards public welfare and social responsibility.
The gesture came after actor Joseph Vijay became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, adding a symbolic connection between the film and real life.
Meaning behind the amount
Arun chose the amount ₹22,674 because it matches Vijay’s date of birth (June 22, 1974). He said he wanted the act to carry personal meaning for fans of the actor.
He also recorded and shared his visit to the post office while making the donation.
Letter to the Chief Minister
Along with the donation, Arun wrote a letter titled “Fulfilling my individual debt responsibility” to Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.
He said the money may not reduce state debt but could support welfare work. He also asked for better support and access for persons with disabilities.
Arun, who has polio since childhood, said inclusion and accessibility are important issues for him.
