Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the company’s long-term investment plans and its role in India’s growing digital mobility sector.

During the meeting, Khosrowshahi said Uber views India as a key long-term market and a central part of its growth strategy aligned with the country’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted that since his last meeting with the Finance Minister in 2022, the number of earners on Uber’s platform in India has significantly increased, reflecting strong expansion of its driver and partner ecosystem.
Discussions focused on Uber’s future investment roadmap in India and how mobility platforms can support economic growth through technology-driven services. Khosrowshahi emphasized that Uber aims to remain a long-term partner in India’s development journey.
He also met G20 Sherpa and former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who described Uber’s evolution in India as part of the country’s broader startup and innovation story.
Kant noted that Uber has grown from a premium ride-hailing service into a wider mobility platform offering services like bike taxis and auto-rickshaw rides, improving last-mile connectivity for millions. He also highlighted Uber’s technology development work in India, saying the company is contributing to the “Create in India” vision through its engineering and tech centres.
Overall, the meetings underscored Uber’s deepening engagement with India’s mobility ecosystem and its plans to expand investment and innovation in the country.
