The government on Monday assured citizens that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country, even as global energy markets face volatility due to the ongoing West Asia crisis. The clarification came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to use fuel more cautiously and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government has taken multiple steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to consumers with minimal disruption. She noted that while international oil prices have been affected by geopolitical tensions, India’s domestic supply chain remains stable.
According to officials, crude oil inventories are sufficient and refinery operations are running at optimal levels without any disruption. Sharma confirmed that there have been no shortages reported at petrol pumps or LPG distribution centres across the country.
She further stated that LPG supply is functioning normally, with distribution networks operating efficiently nationwide. In recent days, millions of LPG cylinders have been delivered, and commercial LPG sales have also continued steadily. PNG infrastructure is also expanding, with lakhs of new connections being registered and supplied.
The ministry also highlighted enforcement actions, including inspections and penalties against distributors to ensure smooth supply operations.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks, officials encouraged citizens to adopt energy-saving habits where possible. Suggestions included using public transport, carpooling, increasing railway freight usage, and adopting electric vehicles to reduce fuel consumption and economic pressure.
PM Modi, speaking at a recent event in Telangana, emphasized the need for careful use of petrol, diesel, and gas amid global uncertainty. He also highlighted India’s progress in renewable energy, ethanol blending, LPG coverage, and gas infrastructure development.
He stated that India’s ongoing transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy systems is helping the country remain resilient in the face of global energy challenges.
