Tamil star and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay appeared set for a strong political breakthrough in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a striking debut in state politics.

At the time of reporting, his party had won 64 seats and was leading in 42 more, according to the Election Commission of India.
Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu congratulated Vijay on the early performance of TVK, saying many young people, including employees in his own company, showed enthusiasm for the party. In his post on X, he praised the outcome, referred to hopes of changing long-standing concerns around electoral practices, and wished the party continued success. He also said his team would keep focusing on technology work with renewed energy.
Vijay entered politics in February 2024, surprising fans and the film industry. He later launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and held his first major public rally in October 2024. Since then, he has campaigned across Tamil Nadu, addressing large gatherings and presenting his party’s message directly to voters.
His campaign drew massive crowds, though it also saw tragedy in Karur, where a stampede during a TVK event led to 41 deaths.
With the party’s strong showing, Vijay is now being viewed as a serious political contender, raising questions about whether he will continue his film career. Reports suggest he may step away from cinema if he takes up full-time politics. His upcoming film Jana Nayagan is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification and has reportedly been delayed since January.
