Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has inaugurated a new expansion wing at its Technology Centre Pune (TCP) in Baner, adding around 33,000 sq. ft. to its existing facility as part of its push to position India as a key global R&D hub within the Volkswagen Group.

The company aims to respond more quickly to Indian customer preferences and evolving market trends, while also improving scalability and speed of development across projects.
The newly expanded facility will focus on advanced vehicle engineering, platform development, software systems, and sustainable mobility solutions. With this addition, the company now has around 450 engineers working across its Chakan plant and multiple domestic and international assignments.
As part of Volkswagen Group’s global engineering network, the Pune centre is expected to strengthen localisation efforts, support export-oriented development, and maintain global benchmarks in quality, safety, and technology standards.
Originally launched in 2019, the Technology Centre Pune has played a key role in designing vehicles tailored for Indian conditions. It has contributed to the development of models such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Škoda Kushaq, and the Kylaq, which is the Group’s first sub-4-metre SUV.
Going forward, the centre plans to expand its capabilities in areas such as digital engineering, automation, and advanced safety technologies. Company leadership said this integrated setup will help deliver global-quality products faster while improving localisation and aligning more closely with customer needs in India and international markets.
In parallel, Škoda Auto India has also entered a partnership with the government-backed Common Services Centre Grameen eStore platform to expand its presence in semi-urban and non-metro regions.
Through this collaboration, models such as the Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia will be made available via CSC’s digital retail network, helping the brand reach a wider customer base beyond major cities.
