GIL Wins ₹30 Crore Su-30 Parachute Export to Vietnam

India’s footprint in global defence manufacturing continues to grow as Gliders India Limited (GIL) has secured a ₹30 crore export contract from Vietnam for Su-30 brake parachutes and pilot parachutes. These components are critical safety systems for fighter aircraft, essential during landings and emergency situations, rather than routine accessories.

GIL’s Expertise in Aerospace Systems

GIL, a Defence Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, has built a strong reputation in aerospace textiles and recovery systems. The Vietnam order demonstrates international trust in Indian-manufactured defence equipment and the increasing acceptance of Indian products in military aviation markets that demand strict quality and safety standards.

Indigenous Manufacturing and High Standards

The brake and pilot parachutes will be manufactured using indigenously sourced materials and produced under the supervision of a skilled workforce. Designed to withstand extreme aerodynamic loads and harsh operational conditions, these systems ensure reliable performance in high-speed combat aircraft. Their selection by a foreign air force reflects confidence in GIL’s engineering standards and manufacturing consistency.

Meeting International Specifications

Officials noted that the export order highlights GIL’s proven ability to deliver mission-critical aerospace systems meeting stringent international norms. It also signals India’s shift toward exporting complex aviation safety equipment, beyond conventional defence items, requiring precision engineering and rigorous certification.

Alignment with Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat

The deal supports the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by strengthening domestic manufacturing and expanding India’s role in the global defence supply chain. By exporting products made largely from indigenous materials, GIL contributes to industrial self-reliance and generates foreign exchange earnings.

Strengthening Defence Ties

Beyond commercial value, the contract enhances India-Vietnam defence relations and sets the stage for deeper technical cooperation in aerospace systems. It reinforces India’s image as a reliable supplier of specialized defence equipment, not merely a buyer in the international arms market.

A Milestone for India’s Defence Manufacturing

The ₹30 crore order further cements GIL’s position as a specialized aerospace manufacturer with growing global reach. This milestone boosts India’s defence exports and demonstrates that Indian firms can deliver high-quality, mission-critical systems trusted by foreign armed forces. As India continues to expand its defence manufacturing ecosystem, such achievements are expected to become more frequent, gradually reshaping the country’s role in the global aerospace and defence sector.
