The Government of India on Sunday announced the 2026 Padma Awards, recognising individuals for exceptional contributions across various fields. Veteran actor Dharmendra and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren will receive the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan posthumously, following their passing last year.

Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the awardees, calling them torchbearers of social change whose achievements and innovations inspire nation-building. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the Padma Awards is to encourage citizens to contribute meaningfully to society.
This year’s list features 19 women and six individuals from abroad, including NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, reflecting India’s global cultural and professional presence. Sixteen awards will be conferred posthumously. The Padma Vibhushan recognises exceptional service, the Padma Bhushan honours distinguished service of a high order, and the Padma Shri recognises distinguished service in any field.
The 2026 awards span diverse disciplines, including art, literature, education, science, medicine, social work, sports, trade, industry, and public affairs. Notable Padma Vibhushan awardees include Dharmendra Singh Deol (posthumous) for art, K T Thomas for public affairs, N Rajam for art, P Narayanan for literature and education, and V S Achuthanandhan (posthumous) for public affairs. Padma Bhushan recipients include Alka Yagnik, Mammootty, Shibu Soren (posthumous), and Uday Kotak, while the Padma Shri list features 113 achievers across multiple fields.
The 2026 Padma Awards celebrate individuals whose dedication, talent, and service continue to shape India’s growth and global presence, honouring both living legends and those remembered posthumously for their lasting contributions.
