Tata Motors announced a leadership reshuffle on Friday, appointing Shailesh Chandra as managing director and CEO, and Dhiman Gupta as chief financial officer. The move comes amid operational disruptions at Jaguar Land Rover, which recently faced a major cyberattack.

Chandra will officially take over as MD and CEO from October 1, serving a three-year term until 2028. He currently serves as joint managing director of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles and passenger electric mobility businesses, and will continue overseeing the electric mobility segment.
Dhiman Gupta succeeds PB Balaji as CFO. Balaji, in turn, is set to become CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, a role announced by Tata Motors in August. These changes arrive as the UK government considers financial support for JLR’s suppliers, following extended factory closures caused by the cyberattack.
Shailesh Chandra’s Career Journey
Shailesh Chandra has spent nearly three decades at Tata Motors. He began in 1995 as a production manager and progressed to senior roles, including Senior Manager in Vendor Development, Divisional Manager at Telco/Tata Motors, and Deputy General Manager at the Vice Chairman’s Office.
In 2013, Chandra briefly moved to Tata Sons Limited, serving as Assistant Vice President at the Group Chairman’s Office in 2015. Returning to Tata Motors in 2016, he led corporate strategy and business administration, and later became President of the Passenger Vehicles Unit and Electric Mobility Business. In 2022, he was appointed CEO and Managing Director of these units, positions he continues to hold.
