Infusory Brings AR Learning to Tribal Schools

Infusory’s TutAR app uses 3D models to make science, maths, and English easier to learn in tribal schools without internet

Deeptech startup Infusory has introduced its augmented reality (AR)-based learning platform in 121 tribal schools across Maharashtra, following a collaboration with the state government. The initiative is part of Maharashtra’s Tribal School Infrastructure Enhancement Program, aiming to make learning more interactive and accessible for students from nursery to Class XII.

TutAR App with 3D Curriculum Models

The rollout features Infusory’s TutAR app, which offers a wide library of curriculum-aligned 3D models to enhance subjects such as science, mathematics, environmental studies, and English. The app helps students and teachers not only view lessons as interactive 3D content but also engage with them in a meaningful way.

According to co-founder Thomson Tom, the app allows students to visualize complex topics like the human heart in 3D, improving comprehension and enjoyment. “It makes learning much more engaging,” he said.

Designed for Challenging Environments

TutAR has been specifically tailored to function in remote and under-resourced schools. Co-founder Shyam Pradeep Alil noted that tribal regions often face poor internet connectivity and lack of modern hardware, and TutAR addresses these challenges. “The app works fully offline, without Wi-Fi or mobile data,” he said.

Infusory’s proprietary On-screen AR technology powers the app, making it compatible with basic devices like mobile tablets, projectors, and interactive panels, without requiring special AR hardware.

Kochi-Based Startup with Global Reach

Founded in 2018 in Kochi by Malayali entrepreneurs Thomson Tom (Kottayam) and Shyam Pradeep Alil (Thrissur), Infusory began as a student startup incubated by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM). Today, its TutAR platform is used in over 5,000 schools and by nearly 1 lakh teachers in India and abroad.

Aligned with National Education Policy

The Maharashtra government’s adoption of TutAR aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes tech-enabled education to make learning more inclusive and innovative. Infusory’s founders believe this project could serve as a model for other states to modernize their educational systems.

Backed by KSUM

Infusory is supported by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), the state government’s nodal agency for entrepreneurship development, established in 2006. KSUM has played a key role in nurturing innovative deeptech ventures like Infusory.
