Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia have announced the launch of a new direct flight route between Sharjah and the Maldives, starting October 27. This daily service will operate using Airbus A320 aircraft, connecting Sharjah Airport to Velana International Airport in Malé.
Boosting Travel and Economic Links
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted the airport’s key role in boosting the region’s aviation sector. He noted that the new route strengthens economic and tourism ties between the UAE and Maldives, fostering more opportunities for cooperation.
Expanding Air Arabia’s Network
Adel Al Ali, CEO of Air Arabia, expressed excitement about the new Maldives route, emphasising the airline’s commitment to providing affordable travel options while expanding its global network. The service offers passengers direct access to a popular tropical destination.
Future Plans for Sharjah Airport
Sharjah Airport is working towards increasing its passenger capacity to 25 million, focusing on attracting international airlines, adding more flights, and expanding destinations through strategic partnerships.
Celebrating the First Flight
The inaugural flight ceremony was attended by officials from the UAE and Maldives, including Mr. Hassaan Waheed, the deputy ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the UAE.
