The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a significant milestone as the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was successfully injected into the translunar orbit on Tuesday. With only 22 days left, India is inching closer to its next lunar mission, aiming to perform a soft landing on the lunar surface.
Translunar Orbit Injection (TLI) Success:
The ISRO confirmed the successful insertion of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into the translunar orbit after completing its orbits around the Earth. The spacecraft is now en route to the Moon, and the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is scheduled for August 5, 2023.
Mission Progress and Objectives:
The spacecraft’s journey towards the Moon began after its departure from Earth’s orbit following the TLI maneuver. This mission builds upon the achievements of Chandrayaan-2 and aims to showcase a range of capabilities, including reaching the Moon’s orbit, executing a soft landing on the lunar surface using a lander, and deploying a rover to conduct surface studies on the Moon.
Upcoming Soft Landing on the Moon:
The culmination of the mission is set for August 23, with the planned soft landing of the lander on the lunar surface. The successful execution of this soft landing will be a significant achievement for India’s space program.
India-US Collaboration in Space Domain:
The collaboration between India and the United States is expanding to encompass new initiatives in various domains, as highlighted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the SemiconIndia Conference 2023. India’s signing of the Artemis Accords and the promotion of stronger NASA-ISRO collaboration in the space domain reflect the growing partnership between the two nations.
