The adhesive bandage, created by researchers at NYU Abu Dhabi, relies on gold nanoparticles to quickly detect immune antibodies in the bloodstream. These antibodies, known as IgM and IgG, are naturally produced as a response to SARS-CoV-2 infection, making them valuable biomarkers for identifying infected individuals and tracking the progress of pandemics.
