Asia’s first woman pilot Surekha Yadav operates Vande Bharat Express
Surekha Yadav, a native of Satara, Maharashtra, became the nation’s first female train conductor in 1988. The Vande Bharat Express is currently being operated by Surekha Yadav, the first female locomotive driver in Asia. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, tweeted her admiration for Yadav, saying “Nari Shakti is the force behind Vande Bharat. Smt. On Monday, Surekha Yadav operated the Vande Bharat Express from Solapur to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Maharashtra. Yadav expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to drive the high-speed Vande Bharat Train.
According to a statement from the Central Railway, Surekha Yadav was grateful for the chance to drive the cutting-edge Vande Bharat Express. The train left Solapur at the appointed hour and arrived at CSMT five minutes early. The crew learning process involves following signals, using new tools firsthand, coordinating with other crew members, and adhering to all guidelines for the proper operation of a train.

The Central Railway previously ran the renowned Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Express and CSMT-Kalyan ladies’ special local train with all-female crews, as a tribute to women on International Women’s Day. Surekha Yadav was the Deccan Queen’s operator that day, and Sayali Sawardekar was his junior loco pilot. While a group of six female travelling ticket examiners, headed by chief ticket inspector Jiji John and Deepa Vaidya, helped and guided the passengers, Leena Francis handled the duties of the train manager (guard).Mumtaz Kazi, the first suburban motor lady of Asia, was in charge of the K99 local, a ladies-only train that ran between Kalyan and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). On the train, Mayuri Kamble served as a guard.
