A green happy news from India to the world. 59 lakh tonnes of lithium deposits have been discovered in Jammu and Kashmir, setting the stage for a green energy revolution and a huge economic boom.
The Geological Survey of India has come up with this good news for India, which is preparing for a huge leap in the field of electric vehicles, mobiles and laptops. A huge deposit of lithium has been discovered in Salal Haimana area of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
5.9 million tonnes of lithium reserves have been found in Kashmir.
This is the first time such a lithium reserve has been discovered in the country. Lithium is the main component of rechargeable batteries used in electric vehicles, mobile phones and laptops.
In 2025, the world would need 15 million tons of environment friendly lithium. It will become a requirement of 30 lakh tonnes in 2030. Therein lies the commercial relevance of the 59 lakh tonnes of lithium initially discovered in India.
With the discovery of lithium reserves in the country, which is the main component used in EV batteries, it is expected that there will be huge changes in the field of electric vehicles. With this, the price of EV batteries will decrease in the country and it has been discovered that India can freely export lithium to foreign countries. Currently, lithium, nickel, cobalt etc. are being imported for the needs of the country. E.V. Lithium is used in batteries, mobile phones, solar panels, etc. With this discovery, the country can become self-sufficient as large-scale consumption exists in these areas
The Union Ministry of Mines announced that the Geological Survey of India has discovered lithium deposits in Jammu and Kashmir during four years of mineral exploration in various states.
Do you know?
Where is the world’s largest lithium deposit? Afghanistan. One lakh crore tonnes. This was revealed by America in 2010. China is in ongoing talks with the Taliban regime to mine Afghan lithium.
India gains in lithium
Such huge lithium reserves would make India self-sufficient in the sector as the world shifts to electric vehicles to avoid the cost of petrol and diesel and to avoid pollution. Currently, lithium batteries are imported from China, Japan and Vietnam.
Geological Survey of Indian Mines Secretary Vivek Bharadhwaj said that this is the first time that lithium deposits have been discovered in the country. Exploration by the Geological Survey has identified 51 mineral blocks that include nickel, cobalt and gold in addition to lithium. They were found in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. 7897 million tonnes of coal and lignite deposits were also discovered.
How lithium will make India proud?
The most expensive component of e-vehicles is the battery. If manufactured locally, the cost of the battery will be lower. Lithium mined from the country or batteries made from it can be exported. China now dominates the sector with 80% of lithium battery exports
White gold
Lithium is a non-ferrous metal that does not contain iron. So it does not rust. It is silver in color. . It is also known as white gold as it is used in modern gadgets.
Why is lithium used in batteries?
Environmentally friendly lithium and its products are non-polluting. The capacity is higher than the normal battery, the size is smaller, and it can be charged repeatedly every day.By fast charging, the battery will be charged at the maximum speed.
What is lithium used for?
E-Vehicles, Mobile Phone, Laptop, Energy Storage System, U. P. S, Inverter Battery, Solar Plant, Electronics Chargers, , Toys, Wireless Headphone, Camera, Power Tools, Home Appliances, Glass and Ceramic Industry
