Everybody has nostalgia connected to samosa. For instance, ‘samosa and chai’ is a hit combination. Entrepreneurs Amit Nanwani and Diksha Pande’s food startup Samosa Party offers a hygienic and authentic alternative to this staple snack of India.
Diksha who worked in the Food and Beverage sector and Amit who worked in the corporate world started the startup out of their love for samosa. Amit, a native of Indore, met Diksha, who hails from Nainital, when the latter was working with Pizza Hut’s innovation section. They discussed the lack of global brand recall for Indian street food. Also, in India, samosas are mostly made in unhygienic conditions. Samosa Party attempts to solve these issues. Its motto is “when people think of samosas, they should think of Samosa Party.”
Started in Bengaluru in 2017, Samosa Party makes samosas with the help of automation. Compared to other countries, it is a novel concept in India. Yet, they decided to give it a shot. Now, about 75 per cent of their entire samosa making process is automated.
According to the founders, it brings standardisation across outlets. Samosa Party has 10 outlets across Bengaluru. It receives up to 30,000 orders per month. The menu usually carries about 12 varieties. During the covid lockdown, they sold about 8 lakh samosas. Now, they get bulk orders for corporate events and big gatherings. They sell freshly-fried samosas. It will be available in 30 minutes.
In August 2020, this bootstrapped startup raised Series A funding from investors at Inflection Point Ventures. Samosa Party plans to expand to NCR, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
