E-commerce shows great demand for gig workers

The upcoming festive season increases demand for gig workers in e-commerce

As the fintech and e-commerce companies are prepping for the festive season, the e-commerce sector is hiring gig workers on a large scale. In June, the industry offered 5 lakh gig tasks, says Taskmo Gig Index (TGI). As per TGI’s statistics, the demand for gig workers rose up by 11 per cent as companies like Epay, Amazon Pay, and Flipkart posted the highest number of job vacancies to meet the demands of the upcoming ‘Great Indian Sales’ and ‘Prime Day Sales.’ 

Hirings for jobs such as last-mile delivery executives went up by 12 per cent whereas the positions for telecallers rose by 10 per cent.

This is followed by

  • Business development executives (9%)
  • Edtech (5%)
  • Food tech (4%)

Mysore reported the highest rate in gig hirings with a 23 per cent on-month, followed by

  • Bengaluru (16%),
  • Kanpur (14 per cent), Lucknow (13.3%),
  • Bhopal (13.3 per cent), Coimbatore (12.7%),
  • Shivamogga (12.7%),
  • Delhi (12%)

More hirings took place in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets as the brands strengthen their presence in these markets. In Tier-2 markets, it went up by 11 per cent while in Tier-3 markets it shot up by 13 per cent.
