E-commerce giant Amazon will open its new consumer robotics software development centre in India. The centre will support Amazon’s international Robotics division. The division launched its first robot Astro last year.

According to Ken Washington, Vice President, Consumer Robotics, Amazon, the new centre will support Amazon’s growing consumer robotics division and attract top talent to work on world-class technology products.

Astro is designed using artificial intelligence, computer vision, sensor technology, and voice and edge computing. It is designed to help customers with a range of tasks such as home monitoring.

Astro has an in-built Alexa. It uses advanced navigation technology to find its way around the home. The user can remotely send Astro to check on specific rooms, people, or things and can get alerts if Astro detects an unrecognised person or certain sounds when they are away.
