Mukesh Ambani has said that the succession process at Reliance Industries is almost complete, with Akash Ambani, Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani now leading key businesses across telecom, retail, digital services, oil-to-chemicals and new energy, as the group continues its transition toward a diversified technology, consumer and clean energy-driven conglomerate.

Mukesh Ambani has said that the transition of day-to-day management responsibilities at Reliance Industries to the next generation is now “almost complete”, marking a major milestone in the succession process at India’s most valuable conglomerate.

Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting on Friday, the Reliance chairman said his children Akash, Isha and Anant are already leading major business verticals and are positioned to drive the group’s next phase of expansion across telecom, retail, digital services and new energy.

Next Generation Takes Operational Control

Ambani said the three siblings have now completed several years on the company’s board and are actively steering core businesses. Akash Ambani oversees the group’s digital and telecom operations through Jio, Isha Ambani leads the retail and consumer businesses, while Anant Ambani is responsible for the energy and new energy segments.

He described the transition as effectively complete in terms of operational control, while emphasizing that the group remains unified in its long-term vision.

Addressing shareholders, Ambani said the future of Reliance is in “safe hands” and added that the next generation will take the company to “far greater heights”.

Business Presentations by the Three Siblings

Continuing a pattern seen in recent years, Akash and Isha Ambani presented detailed updates on their respective businesses at the AGM, covering telecom, digital services and retail operations. Anant Ambani shared updates on the group’s traditional oil-to-chemicals business as well as its emerging clean energy portfolio.

Ambani praised each of them for their performance, noting the progress made in their respective roles and the execution of strategic priorities across the conglomerate.

Building a Wider Leadership Pipeline

Beyond his children, Ambani said Reliance has also developed a wider pool of nearly 500 young leaders across various businesses. These professionals, many in their 30s and 40s, are being groomed with domain expertise and technical skills to support the group’s long-term expansion.

He said this leadership layer is being mentored to maintain Reliance’s institutional culture while raising performance standards across the organisation.

A Diversified Empire Under Transition

Reliance Industries, which spans oil refining and petrochemicals, retail, digital services and new energy, has been steadily shifting from its traditional energy base into consumer-facing and technology-driven businesses.

While Akash, Isha and Anant now handle major verticals, Mukesh Ambani continues as chairman and managing director, with his current term extending until 2028. He also retains leadership roles in key subsidiaries including Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail Ventures.

Gradual Succession Strategy

The succession framework has been evolving over several years, with formal board roles assigned to the siblings and operational responsibilities gradually transferred. Akash was earlier appointed chairman of Jio Infocomm, while Isha and Anant have been active on the boards of Reliance Retail and Jio Platforms.

Despite the clear operational division of roles, Ambani has not announced a timeline for a full leadership handover.

Legacy and Expansion Plans

The transition comes as Reliance continues its shift toward digital services, retail expansion and renewable energy investments, backed by major global partnerships and investments from international technology and financial firms.

Ambani, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, continues to oversee the group’s strategic direction while preparing the next generation to lead one of India’s largest corporate empires.
