Rishabh Pant is reportedly on course for a major salary reduction to enable a potential return to Delhi Capitals, with discussions underway for an IPL trade that would see him move from Lucknow Super Giants in exchange for Kuldeep Yadav, according to Cricbuzz.

As part of the proposed arrangement awaiting BCCI approval, Pant’s annual salary is expected to drop from ₹27 crore to around ₹15 crore, a reduction of roughly ₹12 crore or about 44 percent. The steep pay adjustment appears to be a key factor in making the trade viable, given the difficulty franchises face in absorbing such a large contract within existing squad budgets.
Kuldeep Yadav set for move to Lucknow
Under the same deal, Kuldeep Yadav is likely to head to Lucknow Super Giants on his current ₹13.25 crore contract. The swap would effectively see both players return to familiar environments, with Pant strongly associated with Delhi Capitals and Kuldeep having deep ties to Uttar Pradesh cricket.
Pant’s possible homecoming to Delhi
Pant represented Delhi Capitals from 2016 to 2024, featuring in 111 matches and even leading the side in 43 games across three seasons. He was released ahead of the 2025 mega auction after reported differences with the franchise, but a shift in the ownership and management structure has reopened the door for a possible reunion.
With JSW expected to hold key control of the franchise in the coming period, discussions around Pant’s return have gained momentum. Parth Jindal is also believed to have been in favour of bringing the wicketkeeper-batter back into the setup.
However, Pant is not expected to immediately reclaim the captaincy, with his role likely centred on his impact as a top-order batter and wicketkeeper.
LSG looking for a reset
For Lucknow Super Giants, the move signals a possible reset after an underwhelming stint involving Pant. The franchise is understood to be reassessing its direction following a disappointing campaign, with leadership and balance both under review.
One of IPL’s biggest potential trades
If cleared, the deal would rank among the most high-profile trades in IPL history, not just because of the players involved but also due to the significant financial restructuring. Pant agreeing to a substantial pay cut highlights the seriousness of the negotiations and the intent from all sides to push the move through.
