Maruti Suzuki has started a vehicle scrapping and recycling facility in Noida. The facility, Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India (MSTI), is in partnership with Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Group.

Huge capacity

The facility is built with an investment of Rs 44 crore. It has an annual capacity of 24,000 end-of-life vehicles  (ELV). This is a step towards a circular economy aiming to promote organised, transparent, and environment-friendly dismantling of ELVs.

The equipment used at the facility is made in India. The facility follows globally-approved quality and environment standards. They include complete solid and liquid waste management, ensuring zero discharge of liquid and gases from ELVs.

National Automobile Scrappage Policy

Lately, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had launched National Automobile Scrappage Policy.

“We need scrapping and recycling units,” Union minister Nitin Gadkari said. He also said the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy is aimed at creating an ecosystem for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles.
