Indian Railways is preparing to introduce 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains by 2025. The first trainset, developed by BEML, has been handed over to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. According to ICF General Manager U Subba Rao, oscillation and safety trials will begin on November 15 and continue for around two months. Once certified, the trains will be launched for commercial operations next year.
Focus on Comfort, Safety, and Modern Design
Each Vande Bharat Sleeper train will consist of 16 coaches, offering seating for 823 passengers across First-Class AC, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier categories. These trains are designed to match international standards in comfort and aesthetics.

Key features include:
- Austenitic stainless-steel coach body for improved durability
- Crash buffers and couplers for enhanced passenger safety
- Sound-insulated cabins with plush, modern interiors
- Advanced lighting, infotainment, and bio-toilet systems
Expected Routes Yet to Be Confirmed
Although official routes have not been announced, early reports suggest the trains may be introduced on routes like New Delhi–Pune and New Delhi–Srinagar. These corridors were chosen due to their high demand and potential to test the trains on long-distance routes effectively.
A New Era for Long-Distance Rail Travel
The Vande Bharat Sleeper series is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to modernize its fleet. By introducing upgraded interiors, strong safety features, and enhanced travel experience, the initiative aims to redefine overnight train journeys for Indian passengers.
