Reliance Jio has joined forces with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s satellite internet service to India. However, the partnership hinges on SpaceX securing the necessary regulatory approvals to operate Starlink in the country. Once approved, Jio plans to distribute Starlink services through its retail outlets and online platforms.

Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding broadband access nationwide. “Our goal is to provide high-speed internet to every Indian, regardless of location. Collaborating with SpaceX to introduce Starlink in India marks a significant step towards universal connectivity,” he stated.

By integrating Starlink into its broadband offerings, Jio aims to enhance its network’s reach, reliability, and accessibility, particularly in an AI-driven world. The partnership is designed to improve internet connectivity across India, especially in remote and underserved regions. As India’s leading mobile data provider, Jio will leverage Starlink’s satellite network to reinforce its services. Additionally, Jio will establish support systems for installation, activation, and customer service for Starlink users.

This initiative aligns with Jio’s broader mission of making internet access more widespread. Starlink will complement Jio’s existing broadband solutions, JioFiber and JioAirFiber, enabling faster and more cost-effective coverage in hard-to-reach areas.

The announcement follows Airtel’s recent revelation that it has also partnered with SpaceX to offer Starlink internet in India, intensifying competition in the satellite broadband sector.

Both Jio and Airtel are also exploring further collaborations to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, lauded Jio’s efforts in expanding connectivity. “We commend Jio’s dedication to advancing India’s digital landscape. We eagerly anticipate working together and obtaining government approval to bring Starlink’s high-speed internet to more individuals and businesses,” she said.
