Dr. A. Velumani, the founder of Thyrocare, recently shared his perspective on the role of cooking in maintaining strong relationships and happy marriages. He stated that people who learn to cook tend to have better relationships, while those who see it as a waste of time struggle to sustain connections, even if they marry into wealth.

Reflecting on his own marriage, Dr. Velumani praised his late wife, Sumathi Velumani, for balancing her career at the State Bank of India (SBI) while nurturing both their families. He also highlighted his own role in supporting household responsibilities, reinforcing his belief that food strengthens relationships.

Ego and Its Impact on Relationships
Beyond cooking, Dr. Velumani also discussed the role of ego in personal and professional relationships. He pointed out that ego weakens relationships, whether in marriage, business, or career. He stated, “Not just for business alone. Be it career or marriage, ego amplifies pains and erases pleasures.”

According to him, a strong ego creates communication barriers, prevents compromise, and leads to unresolved conflicts. In marriages, it often results in emotional disconnect. In the corporate world, ego-driven leadership can alienate employees, stifle innovation, and hinder growth opportunities.

Dr. Velumani’s insights highlight the importance of humility, shared responsibilities, and emotional intelligence in both personal and professional success.
