Chennai-based startup KitOSys, founded by Satheshkumar S, has unveiled iKichn (Intelligent Kitchen), a revolutionary multi-cuisine automated machine designed to cater to large-scale meal preparations. This innovative machine can prepare meals for anywhere from 50 to 500 people, addressing the significant challenge of quality manpower in the food industry. Satheshkumar highlighted the benefits of iKichn for small and medium-sized food businesses, which often struggle with manpower turnover and sustainability. “This iKichn offers a cost-effective solution to improve profitability and ensure consistent quality,” he explained.

Development Journey

The concept for iKichn originated in 2005 when Satheshkumar envisioned a solution to ease his wife’s kitchen workload and cater to personal dietary needs. By 2015, with his background in automation engineering, Satheshkumar began developing the idea. KitOSys, initially named Food Printer, was established in 2016 to turn this vision into reality. After a million man-hours and a strategic pivot due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KitOSys focused on creating a commercial model. The iKichn prototype was developed over three years, and is now ready for market, capable of cooking a variety of dishes with minimal human intervention.

Commercial Prospects

The commercial prototype of iKichn, built from stainless steel, can fit within a space of 2 metres by 2 metres, with potential expansion. KitOSys, recognized by NITI Aayog and Stanford SEED, has invested Rs 3-4 crores into the project. Satheshkumar, with over three decades in automation engineering, has committed his personal savings and time to develop this groundbreaking technology. The startup aims to sell over 100 units in FY-26, targeting revenues of Rs 50-100 crores. With a growing team and a low-cost operational model, KitOSys is set to transform the food industry with its innovative automated kitchen solution.
