Surya Varshan, a 22-year-old entrepreneur from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, has taken the direct-to-consumer (D2C) market by storm with his brand ‘Naked Nature.’ From humble beginnings in his 12th grade, Surya’s journey began with the creation of Hibiscus Bath Salt, a product he crafted in his kitchen using just Rs 200 saved from his pocket money. Today, Naked Nature boasts a valuation exceeding Rs 10 crore.
Surya’s entrepreneurial spirit ignited during his high school years. With a modest investment and leveraging the abundant salt resources from his hometown, Thoothukudi, he developed his first product. Despite facing rejection due to his young age, Surya’s determination remained unwavering. While pursuing a BE Engineering degree in Chennai, he traveled to Madurai every weekend to nurture his budding business.
Initial sales were challenging due to skepticism about his age, but Surya’s persistence paid off. His first significant breakthrough came when an Ayurvedic physician made a substantial purchase after being impressed by the bath salt samples. This turning point bolstered Surya’s confidence, leading him to further his education in digital marketing through YouTube lessons while attending college in Madurai.
To support his growing business, Surya offered online classes in digital marketing, earning around Rs 2.20 lakh, which he reinvested into Naked Nature. The brand now features a diverse range of 70 products, including bath, skin, and hair care items. In the financial year 2021-22 alone, Naked Nature generated an impressive Rs 56 lakh in revenue.
Naked Nature’s manufacturing unit is based in Madurai, and its products are available both online and across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
