The sprawling Ladywalk in the tranquil village of Tewin, acquired by the controversial Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, served as the picturesque venue for his son Sidhartha Mallya’s intimate wedding ceremony to Jasmine, held yesterday.
Purchased from Anthony Hamilton, father of Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, in 2015, Ladywalk is more than just a residence. The estate, valued at over $14 million (£11.5 million), exemplifies Mallya’s taste for luxury and has been his sanctuary since fleeing India amid allegations of a ₹900-crore loan fraud.
The estate spans 30 acres and includes three houses, multiple outhouses, swimming pools, fountains, and tennis courts. The property’s centerpiece is a grand mansion equipped with all the trappings one would expect from Mallya, who is often dubbed the ‘King of Good Times.’
Despite its grandeur, the garage was reportedly inadequate to accommodate Mallya’s extensive collection of high-end vehicles, necessitating further expansion and renovations. These renovations have included a continuous stream of builders, architects, decorators, and landscape artists since Mallya took ownership.
Vijay Mallya’s residence at Ladywalk is not just about luxury but also privacy and security. The estate is heavily fortified with CCTV cameras, robust wrought iron gates, and a team of security guards. This has ensured that Mallya and his family maintain a low profile in the otherwise quiet and unassuming village of Tewin.
Locals in Tewin have long been intrigued by the presence of the enigmatic millionaire. Although Mallya himself remains elusive, the frequent sight of his helicopter overhead and the convoy of staff and luxury cars have become a part of the village’s daily life. The landlord of the local pub noted, “I’ve never met him, but his presence is definitely felt here.”
Ladywalk’s lavish surroundings provided a stunning backdrop for Sidhartha and Jasmine Mallya’s wedding. Visuals shared by guests revealed the estate’s grounds brimming with festivity and elegance, a testament to the grandeur that the property embodies.
American actress Imke Hart, a friend of the couple, shared glimpses of the celebration on social media, showcasing the estate’s splendor to the world.
Vijay Mallya’s tenure at Ladywalk is shrouded in controversy. Since fleeing India, he has faced numerous legal challenges over allegations of financial misconduct.
