Electric vehicle maker VinFast is expanding its workforce development and industry-academia partnerships as the automotive sector sees growing demand for specialised talent in software, batteries and advanced technologies.
The Vietnam-based Vingroup company has partnered with 19 universities and higher education institutions in Vietnam to develop training programmes that match the evolving needs of the electric vehicle industry.
The programmes cover automotive engineering, mechatronics, electrical and electronics engineering, automation and information technology. VinFast is providing participating institutions with training equipment and technical materials, while EV repair modules covering battery systems, powertrains and diagnostic software are being introduced into academic curricula.
Students will also have opportunities to complete internships at VinFast manufacturing facilities and service workshops. High-performing students may be considered for employment after graduation.
In 2025, VinFast and VinUniversity entered into a strategic partnership focused on battery technologies and advanced materials. The collaboration gives students and researchers opportunities to work on joint research, technical training and internships alongside VinFast experts.
VinFast Plans 3,000 to 3,500 Jobs in India
VinFast is extending its talent development strategy to its overseas manufacturing operations, including India.
The company plans to create between 3,000 and 3,500 direct jobs at its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. Around 80% of the workforce is expected to consist of local fresh graduates and trainees.
VinFast’s first recruitment drive in Tamil Nadu selected 200 local professionals, while 344 diploma students took part through the state government’s Naan Mudhalvan skilling initiative.
The company is also developing local talent at its manufacturing facility in Indonesia. VinFast’s Subang plant initially employed around 1,700 workers. Managerial staff were trained in Vietnam for three to four months, while Vietnamese experts were sent to Indonesia to train local technicians.
VinFast said its workforce development programmes are designed to build skills across the entire EV value chain, including research and development, manufacturing, quality control and after-sales services.
The company is continuing to expand its manufacturing and distribution presence across key markets, including India, North America, Europe, West Asia and other parts of Asia.
