Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has recently joined the exclusive club of centi-billionaires, a group of global tycoons with a net worth exceeding $100 billion. Ambani’s wealth experienced a notable surge as Reliance Industries Ltd reached new record highs, and other affiliated companies also witnessed significant increases.
According to data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mukesh Ambani saw an addition of $2.76 billion in the previous trading session, bringing his total net worth to $102 billion. Currently holding the 12th position, Ambani is closely trailing Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim, who is only $1 billion ahead. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index features only a dozen centi-billionaires.
Reliance Industries’ shares rose by approximately 3% to INR 2,724.95 during Thursday’s trading session, ultimately settling at INR 2,718.40, reflecting a 2.58% increase. The total market capitalization of RIL reached the INR 18.40 lakh crore mark. The stock has demonstrated a 5% increase in the last two trading sessions and a 12% gain in the past month.
The recent upswing in Mukesh Ambani’s fortunes can be attributed, in part, to the performance of the demerged NBFC Jio Financial Services (JFSL). JFSL witnessed a gain of over 4.6%, closing at INR 251.50 on Thursday, with a total market capitalization close to INR 1.6 lakh crore on the BSE.
Other companies under Ambani’s umbrella have also experienced positive momentum. Network18 Media Investment Ltd recorded a 10% gain on Thursday, closing at INR 130.81. The media counter has rallied approximately 45% in the year 2024 so far.
TV18 Broadcast Ltd ended higher on Thursday, with a gain of over 20% in the last five trading sessions and a market capitalization surpassing the INR 11,100 crore mark. Similarly, Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd (RIIL) saw an increase of over 7.2%, reaching INR 1515.65. The stock has witnessed a 35% rise in the past month.
As per the Index, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, maintains his position as the wealthiest individual with a net worth of $212 billion. Nevertheless, his wealth has experienced a decrease of $17 billion since the commencement of 2024. Following Musk, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, holds the second position with a fortune amounting to $180 billion, and Bernard Arnault, the French business magnate, secures the third spot with a net worth of $164 billion.
Among prominent Indian billionaires, Gautam Adani occupies the 14th position on the list, boasting a total wealth of $96.2 billion.
