An eclectic array of gifts and mementos bestowed upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recent times is currently on display at the National Gallery of Modern Arts (NGMA). This unique exhibition, which commenced on Monday, will culminate in an e-auction of these items. PM Modi himself shared his enthusiasm for the exhibition on social media, emphasizing how these gifts are a testament to India’s rich cultural, traditional, and artistic heritage.

PM Modi’s Appreciation

Taking to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared his admiration for the gifts and mementos. He expressed his belief that these items reflect the depth of India’s cultural and artistic legacy. Additionally, PM Modi highlighted that the proceeds from the upcoming e-auction would contribute to the Namami Gange initiative, urging the public to visit NGMA or explore the official website for more details.

Auction Highlights

The auction, conducted through the website “PM Mementos,” includes a wide range of items. Notably, a painting of the Banaras Ghat holds the highest starting bid at ₹64,80,000. Among the offerings are 900 paintings, indigenous handicrafts, intricate sculptures, and captivating folk art. The price range varies from ₹100 to over ₹64 lakh. While 150 of these items are currently on display at the NGMA in the national capital, the rest are accessible on the official website, pmmementos.gov.in.

Minister’s Encouragement

Union Minister of State for Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, encouraged active participation in the e-auction during a press conference earlier in the day. She underscored the significance of the auction, which would contribute to the Namami Gange project—a cause aimed at rejuvenating and conserving the Ganga river.

In summary, the exhibition and e-auction of gifts and mementos presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only showcase India’s cultural richness but also provide an opportunity for individuals to acquire these unique pieces while supporting a noble cause.
