- Jio has launched 5G services in 20 more cities to become the first and the only operator to launch 5G services.
Reliance Jio 5G services are expanding in India. According to the company, its 5G services are now available in Bongaigaon, North Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar, Tinsukia in Assam. It is also being rolled out in Bihar’s Bhagalpur and Katihar, Goa’s Mormugao, Dadra and Nagar Haveli’s Diu, and Gujarat’s Gandhidham. Jio is also bringing 5G to Raichur in Karnataka, Satna in Madhya Pradesh, Chandrapur and Ichalkaranji in Maharashtra, and Thoubal in Manipur. 5G is also available to Jio customers in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad, Firozabad, and Muzaffarnagar. The connectivity option is also being rolled out in Bokaro Steel City, Deoghar, and Hazaribag in Jharkhand.
According to Jio, this brings the total number of cities served by its 5G services to 277. The company maintains its “true 5G” services, which are built on standalone infrastructure. With this technology, Jio promises faster internet speeds (up to 1 Gbps) than competitors such as Airtel and Vi.
The company also claims that expanding 5G to smaller towns and cities will boost “tourism and commerce” in India. According to a spokesperson, the launch of Jio’s True 5G services will provide consumers in the region with not only the best telecommunication network, but also endless growth prospects in the domain of education, automation, Artificial Intelligence, gaming, healthcare, agriculture, IT, and SMEs.
Currently, Jio 5G services are free to use in India, but users must have a 5G-compatible smartphone and have installed the MyJio app. Users will also need to sign up for a “welcome offer” in order to get Jio 5G access.
Furthermore, Jio has stated that users will not require a new SIM card to use 5G, and that their existing 4G SIM will suffice. Readers should also keep in mind that signing up for Jio’s welcome offer may not provide immediate access to 5G, and the sign-up process may take some time (even weeks). Prepaid customers must use a plan with a tariff of Rs 239 or higher.
However, Jio prepaid users on lower-cost plans may also be eligible for 5G by purchasing an additional 5G pack. Jio offers a Rs 61 5G upgrade plan with 6GB of internet data. Users must add the data pack to their existing prepaid plan.
