WhatsApp, a platform for instant messaging owned by Meta, announced the release of “Communities” features that will allow users to manage different groups easily by combining them under one roof. The functionality is being introduced gradually, and in the upcoming months it will be accessible to everyone on iOS and Android platforms. What you need know about WhatsApp Communities is as follows:
What are WhatsApp Communities?
Users can organise group conversations on WhatsApp by connecting various groups under one general heading using the Communities feature. It has a parent group named community and linked subgroups for simple management and communication. New opportunities are made possible by WhatsApp’s Communities feature, particularly for group administrators.
Getting started
The communities tab is accessible to users who have the feature update at the top of their chats on Android and at the bottom of their chats on iOS. Users can either add pre-existing groups or create new Communities by tapping the Communities tab. Users can flip between the groups that are available once they are in a community to access the information, and group administrators can convey critical updates to everyone in the community. In addition to the broadcast group, which can accommodate up to 5000 individuals, users can currently add up to 50 more groups to a community.
How does it function?
Anyone is free to host their own community and ask organisations to join. However, in order to access the community, the group administrators must accept the invitation. Groups and specific members may be expelled from the Community by community administrators. Additionally, group administrators will have the ability to delete offensive or abusive discussions or media for all group members.
Even if a person leaves a group, the community as a whole can still include him, and he will continue to receive announcements shared in the main announcements group. The community admin can broadcast a message to the entire community with the aid of the broadcast group.
In order for its customers to take full advantage of the new feature, WhatsApp released additional capabilities in addition to Communities. Administrators can now use shareable call links to add up to 32 people to calls and conduct polls in sub-groups. Additionally, WhatsApp now supports transferring files up to 2GB in size.
