The Kerala government has allowed MLAs to use their Asset Development Scheme (ADS) funds to procure buses for the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
Under the order for the 2026-27 financial year, each MLA can sanction funds to purchase a maximum of three buses. The move aims to strengthen public transport and help KSRTC replace its ageing fleet.
The seating capacity, body type and fuel type of the buses will be decided in consultation with the KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director.
MLAs interested in using their funds must submit proposals to the concerned District Collector by October 15. After confirming fund availability, the Collector will issue administrative sanction within seven days.
KSRTC will handle the procurement through a single tender. The corporation will also bear the operational costs, including fuel, staff salaries, maintenance and repairs.
The buses will become part of the KSRTC fleet. KSRTC will retain the authority to decide their service category, deployment and redeployment based on operational requirements.
