The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched OneTag, a FASTag portability service on the Rajmargyatra app. The facility allows users to switch their FASTag issuer bank without replacing the physical tag fixed to their vehicle.
Under the new system, users can log in to the Rajmargyatra app and enter their vehicle registration number to check eligibility. The current issuer bank will provide a six-digit Mobile Verification Code for authentication. Users can then select a new issuer and complete customer verification and wallet onboarding.
Once portability is completed, the existing FASTag ID linked to the vehicle registration number remains unchanged. This means users can continue using the same physical sticker with the new issuer bank. The previous issuer will close the old wallet and refund the available balance after applicable adjustments.
OneTag was developed jointly by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by NHAI, and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The service is aimed at giving FASTag users greater choice while reducing the need for repeated tag production, dispatch and replacement.
A six-month cooling period applies before a FASTag can be ported again. The OneTag facility adds to other highway services available through the Rajmargyatra app, including FASTag Annual Pass, FASTag Local Pass and the emergency helpline 1033.
