Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has submitted a revised mobility plan for the proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro project, marking another step towards developing a modern mass-transit system for the capital city.
The revised plan takes into account the city’s changing transportation requirements and recent urban development. It is aimed at creating a more efficient public transport network while improving integration between the Metro and other modes of transport.
The proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro is planned as part of a wider multimodal mobility network. The project’s detailed plan has proposed a 31-km first phase from Pappanamcode to Enchakkal, with 27 stations. Multimodal hubs have also been proposed at Pappanamcode and Anayara to facilitate connections between Metro, road, rail, air and other transport services.
The revised mobility plan is expected to support better public transport connectivity, reduce dependence on private vehicles and help address traffic congestion in Thiruvananthapuram.
The submission comes as authorities work towards strengthening sustainable urban mobility infrastructure in the capital.
