State-owned engineering company BEML has secured an additional order worth around Rs 180.60 crore from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) for the manufacturing and supply of Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets.
The company disclosed the order in a regulatory filing, adding to its growing participation in India’s expanding Vande Bharat train programme.
Vande Bharat Expands to Sleeper Services
The new order comes as Indian Railways moves to expand the Vande Bharat platform beyond its existing chair-car configuration. The sleeper version is being developed for longer-distance journeys, combining the semi-high-speed train’s modern features with overnight travel.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Vande Bharat’s role in India’s premium long-distance rail network.
BEML Strengthens Rail Business
The Rs 180.60 crore contract further increases BEML’s presence in the Vande Bharat programme. The company, which operates under the Ministry of Defence, manufactures defence equipment, rail and metro coaches, as well as heavy engineering products.
BEML has been increasing its focus on the rail and metro segment, with the growing demand for modern trainsets creating new opportunities for the company.
Sleeper Vande Bharat Marks Next Phase
The latest contract comes as the sleeper version of Vande Bharat moves closer to wider deployment. Designed for longer journeys, the trains are expected to extend the Vande Bharat experience from premium daytime travel to overnight connectivity.
The order also highlights the increasing role of Indian manufacturers in supporting the country’s modernisation of railway infrastructure and expansion of next-generation train services.
