US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries Limited’s Jamnagar complex in Gujarat on October 21, 2026, to discuss energy cooperation, advanced manufacturing and potential commercial partnerships. He was accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and welcomed by Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and Executive Director Anant Ambani.
Tour of the Jamnagar Refinery
The delegation toured Reliance’s Jamnagar facility, described as the world’s largest single-site oil-refining complex. Officials were briefed on its scale, advanced technology and integrated operations.

The visit also included presentations on Reliance’s new energy giga-factories, which are being commissioned in phases, and data centres currently under construction. The tour highlighted the company’s investments across conventional energy, clean-energy manufacturing and digital infrastructure.
Energy Security and Technology Cooperation
Discussions covered the global energy landscape and opportunities for collaboration across conventional and new energy. Topics included reliable and affordable energy supplies, technological advances, resilient supply chains and investments needed to meet rising demand.
The two sides also discussed the connection between energy and digital infrastructure, particularly the need for dependable power to support data centres and the expansion of the digital economy.
Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani outlined Reliance’s long-term vision for developing Jamnagar as a centre for deep technology, innovation and advanced manufacturing. They also discussed potential collaboration with US companies, drawing on complementary capabilities in technology, engineering and manufacturing.
Potential for India-US Commercial Partnerships
The visit comes amid efforts by Washington to deepen energy trade with India and expand commercial engagement with Reliance. Rubio had earlier described India as a crude-refining “superpower” and encouraged the country to process more Venezuelan crude.
Reliance’s Jamnagar refineries can process a wide range of crude grades, making the complex relevant to discussions on energy sourcing and international fuel supply chains. However, the visit did not result in a publicly announced new commercial agreement between Reliance and US companies.
