International passengers departing from Indian airports will no longer need to get their boarding passes stamped during immigration clearance from September 1. The Bureau of Immigration has introduced the change to simplify the departure process and make immigration checks quicker and more convenient.
No More Boarding Pass Stamps
Until now, international passengers were required in some cases to show their boarding passes during immigration clearance, where officials would place a stamp on the document.
Under the revised procedure, immigration officers will no longer stamp boarding passes. The Bureau of Immigration has communicated the change to airport operators, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other concerned stakeholders.
The revised process is expected to reduce unnecessary paperwork and avoid problems caused by stamps that may be unclear or difficult to read.
E Boarding Passes Accepted at Immigration
Passengers travelling internationally can now present an electronic boarding pass on their mobile phone at the immigration counter.
Travellers who prefer to carry a printed boarding pass can continue doing so, but immigration officials will no longer stamp the physical document.
This means passengers using digital boarding passes will not need to print a copy simply to obtain an immigration stamp.
What International Travellers Need to Know
The new rule applies to international passengers departing from India and removes one physical step from the immigration process.
Travellers will continue to complete immigration clearance as usual, but they will no longer have to wait for or collect a stamp on their boarding pass before proceeding to the departure gate.
The move is part of efforts by the Bureau of Immigration to make airport immigration procedures faster, simpler and more traveller-friendly.
