Six-time World Champion and Olympic medallist Mary Kom has taken delivery of the new ninth-generation Toyota Hilux in India, becoming one of the first customers to receive the updated lifestyle pickup.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has started customer deliveries of the new Hilux, which was launched in India in July. Mary Kom received her vehicle at a Toyota dealership in the Delhi NCR region.
Mary Kom Takes Delivery
Toyota chose the Independence Day period to begin deliveries of the new Hilux, highlighting its positioning as a vehicle designed for both adventure and everyday driving.
The company described Mary Kom and the Hilux as symbols of strength, resilience and determination, reflecting the qualities associated with both the athlete and the pickup.
Toyota said the new Hilux has received a strong response since its launch on July 28, 2026, although the company has not revealed booking or delivery figures.
New Design for the Hilux
The ninth-generation Hilux gets major changes in both design and features, making it one of the most comprehensive updates to the model.
The pickup follows Toyota’s Tough & Agile design theme, with a more upright front section, a large grille featuring bold Toyota lettering, new LED headlights, redesigned bumpers and updated LED tail lamps.

The cabin has also received a major upgrade with a more modern dashboard and additional technology.
Key features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car features, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera.
The Hilux also gets features such as dual-zone climate control, TPMS and seven airbags.
Diesel Engine Continues in India
The India-spec Hilux continues to use Toyota’s 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.
The engine produces 204 PS of power and up to 500 Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Four-wheel drive comes as standard on the top VX variant and is available as an option on the GX trim.
Price and Variants
Toyota launched the new Hilux in India at a starting price of Rs 31.99 lakh, with prices going up to Rs 36.69 lakh, ex-showroom.
The pickup is available in three variants:
- GX 4X2 AT
- GX 4X4 AT
- VX 4X4 AT
The Hilux also gets features such as Multi Terrain Select and Downhill Assist Control, adding to its off-road capabilities.
Hilux Faces Growing Competition
With customer deliveries now underway, the updated Toyota Hilux continues to compete with the Isuzu V-Cross in India’s premium lifestyle pickup segment.
The model is also expected to face new competition from Mahindra’s upcoming Scorpio pickup, which is set to enter the segment with a new design and features.
