Jupiter Wagons has entered into a strategic partnership with Italy’s Lucchini RS Holding and state-backed financial institution SIMEST to establish India’s first fully integrated private-sector railwheel manufacturing platform. As part of the deal, Lucchini RS and SIMEST will acquire a combined 25% stake in Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory through a €28 million (around ₹307 crore) investment.

The partnership will enable end-to-end manufacturing of railway wheels, axles and wheelsets, combining Jupiter Wagons’ manufacturing capabilities with Lucchini RS’s expertise in metallurgy, engineering and railwheel technology. The existing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will be integrated with a new greenfield manufacturing complex being developed in Odisha.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen India’s self-reliance in critical railway components, reduce import dependence and position the country as a global hub for advanced railwheel manufacturing while supporting the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
