The Kerala Cabinet has approved the allotment of an additional 90 acres of land to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the expansion of the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility at Nettukal near Thiruvananthapuram.
The expansion is aimed at increasing the production, integration and testing capacity of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, one of India’s flagship defence programmes developed jointly by India and Russia. The additional land will support future infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and testing facilities.
The decision is expected to strengthen Kerala’s role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem while generating employment opportunities and attracting further investment in the state’s aerospace and defence sector.
The project also aligns with the country’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by enhancing indigenous defence production capabilities and reinforcing India’s strategic preparedness.
