The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is pressing ahead with tighter regulations for energy drinks despite opposition from leading global beverage companies, including PepsiCo, Red Bull and Monster.

The proposed measures include stricter labelling requirements, clearer warnings on caffeine content and tighter marketing norms aimed at protecting consumers, particularly children and adolescents. The regulator believes stronger safeguards are needed as energy drink consumption continues to rise across the country.
Industry representatives have argued that some of the proposed rules are overly restrictive and could affect product sales and innovation. However, FSSAI has maintained that consumer safety remains its top priority and that the new regulations are intended to ensure greater transparency and responsible consumption.
The move reflects India’s broader push to strengthen food safety standards and improve consumer awareness around products containing high levels of caffeine and other stimulants.
