Olectra Greentech is planning a fresh investment of nearly ₹700 crore as the company accelerates efforts to localise manufacturing and expand its electric commercial vehicle business in India.

The company has already committed around ₹400 crore toward next-generation electric buses and trucks. An additional ₹200–300 crore will reportedly be invested in battery-pack assembly operations, truck manufacturing, and new EV platforms.

Olectra CEO Mahesh Babu said the company is setting up battery-pack assembly facilities while simultaneously developing new platforms where buses and trucks will be largely manufactured within India. The initiative is aligned with the government’s PM E-Drive scheme, which encourages localisation in electric mobility manufacturing.

The company is also expanding production capacity significantly. Earlier investor presentations indicated plans for a new manufacturing facility capable of producing up to 5,000 electric buses annually, scalable to 10,000 units in the future.

Olectra remains one of India’s leading electric bus manufacturers and has been steadily increasing deliveries amid rising demand for sustainable public transport solutions. Industry analysts believe the localisation push could help reduce import dependence while improving long-term margins and supply-chain stability.
